Do not miss this unusual and artistic imagining of Banksy’s famous ‘Mild Mild West’ mural, retold through the popular Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Metres away from the original Banksy, the performance will take place against the backdrop of Yellow Face Lady by artist Stinkfish, a piece that dominates this section of the street and contributes to the area’s iconic street-art status.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines acrobatics, dance, music, and self-defence. Originating in Angola, it was brought to Brazil by enslaved African people and became a way to practise self-defence under the radar of the colonial oppressors.

‘Mild Mild West ' is believed to have been created in response to police raids at warehouse parties that took place in Bristol in the 1990s, and for many it will evoke the 2011 ‘Tesco Riots.’

Performers from Bristol Capoeira are based locally at the Kuumba Centre, Stokes Croft. Their incredible feats of physical agility and strength will entertain you against the backdrop of this extraordinary political legacy, on location here on Stokes Croft.

This is a family friendly performance and children are welcome. Please book a ticket for each person in attendance - this includes children and babies in pushchairs.

This is an outdoor event. In the event of bad weather the show will go on! Wrap up warm and bring a brolly.

This event is wheelchair accessible. It is a standing-only event and there will be no seated capacity unless otherwise arranged. We aim to ensure that this event is accessible to all, but in order to do this we ask individuals to please contact us in advance to discuss specific access needs, so we can work with you to try and meet these ([email protected]).
