An Evening of Sanctuary: Child Migrant Stories at Watershed
See event details

A event held at Watershed on Thursday 3rd April. The event starts at 18:30.

You are warmly invited to join Bristol City of Sanctuary for an evening of oral histories from people who migrated to the UK as children, all of whom have powerful stories to tell.

Their personal testimonies shed light on children’s motivations, trials and achievements, including in adult life, providing critical insight into how the British – both individually and collectively – have welcomed or shunned child migrants.

Child Migrant Stories is a space to explore the lived experiences of child migrants who migrated to the UK, from 1930 to the present day. The project uses images, sound, text and short films, developed in collaboration with those who migrated to this country under the age of 18. You will hear from these individuals themselves, as they share their personal journeys with us through story-telling, film and music.

The evening will conclude with a performance from Dovetail Orchestra, who give everybody a voice through the co-creation of music that brings together ideas, memories and sounds from the different homelands in the group.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Bristol City of Sanctuary, to continue the valuable work of creating a culture of welcome and inclusion in our city.
