Join us for WORKSHOP 2: Welcome to Casamance: Mandé Traditions!

Prepare for an immersive day celebrating the rich traditions of the Mandé People across West Africa . This workshop features not ONE, but THREE exceptional international guest instructors, offering workshops in:

Dance : Experience the energy of Mandingue and Sabar dance! Our instructors will teach you traditional movements that express joy, storytelling, and cultural pride. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm!

Drumming : Learn from exceptional international guest instructors as they guide you through the intricate rhythms of the djembe and dundun. Discover the power of polyrhythms and how to play as part of an ensemble

Singing: Explore the rich vocal traditions of the Mandingue people. Participate in call-and-response singing, harmonization, and storytelling through song. Connect with the community and express yourself!

12:00-13:30 - Mandingue Djembe Drumming & Song / Guest Teacher Vieux Bakayoko

13:45-15:45 - Mandingue Djembe Dance / International Guest Teacher Saly Danse

16:00-17:30 - Sabar Dance / International Guest Teacher Adja Yacine & Batch Gueye



1 Class: £20 (£15 Earlybird)

2 Classes: £35 (£30 Earlybird)

3 Classes: £40 (£35 Earlybird)

Who can Apply?

15-25 years old youth of African heritage, based in Bristol
Commitment: Attend Sabar Family workshops in Bristol and fill out evaluation questionnaires at three time points.
Ambassadorship: Support PR and outreach as a youth ambassador.
