A
event
held at The Trinity Centre
on Saturday 26th October. The event starts at 10:00.
For decades artists, residents, parents, health campaigners, feminists and environmentalists have taken action against outdoor advertising billboards – affronted by corporate marketing messages imposed on us as we move through the streets.
Creative takeovers by guerilla artists have drawn attention to the absurdity, distortion and power dynamics of commercial advertising as well opening space for marginalised voices. More recently in Bristol, community campaigns are having considerable success in stopping new digital billboards. At the same time, these campaigns articulate a vision of public space that prioritises our wellbeing, public art, nature and solidarity over consumerist values.
Join Adblock Bristol for the UK’s first anti-advertising conference bringing together artists, community activists, planners, academics, subvertisers and residents. We’ll hear from French campaigners on how they created Europe’s first ad-free city in Grenoble and share strategies and tactics for building happier and healthier cities.
