Heartbeat Records Presents Glaxo Babies + Support at The Thunderbolt
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Live history lesson incoming! Glaxo Babies are simply Bristol’s greatest 80s post-punk band - born and gone in a flash of itchy guitars, dubby basslines, and shambolic lo-fi punk-funk joy. You’re bloody lucky to see them again, with overlooked power-punk heroes Private Dicks - all from foundational DIY imprint Heartbeat Recs. Mandatory attendance FFO: Pigbag, Pop Group, Blurt, Maximum Joy, Wire etc."

A gig held at The Thunderbolt on Friday 5th July. The event starts at 20:00.

HEARTBEAT RECORDS: Set up in 1978, to provide a platform for music from the Bristol (UK) area to reach a wider audience. Initially run as a partnership between Tony Dodd (Tony's Records, & ace guitar man) and Simon Edwards (local musician & manager), though after the first release Tony decided to concentrate on the shop & Heartbeat became a one man operation. A number of singles & albums were subsequently released around the label flagship "Avon Calling" - The Bristol Compilation LP, which went on to bring Bristol music much deserved critical acclaim & thanks to John Peel a good deal of national airplay. Mike Darby Bristol Archive Records

GLAXO BABIES: One of the greatest UK post-punk band you've never heard. Formed in Bristol in late 1977 and named after the British pharmaceutical giant who allegedly inoculated thousands with a toxic vaccine, the band's pioneering mix of metallic guitar, dubbed-out rhythms and shamanistic chants found its way into the bloodlines of generations on both sides of the pond. Naturally, Glaxo members later joined The Pop Group and Maximum Joy.: Superior Viaduct

PRIVATE DICKS: Private Dicks were an amazing punk - power pop band from Bristol (UK). They formed in 1979 and in the same year they released one of the best UK punk pop 7”’s in that season, ‘She Said Go’ on Heartbeat records.

The band was discovered some years ago and bootleged on ‘Killed by Death’ serie, but also seriously produced by the ‘cult’ japanese label 1977 on cd. The band recorded also various GREAT quality studio material that you’ll find here, in this amazing Lp. You can also hear the energy of the band with the three live tracks enclosed.Well, if you're a fan of Jam, Undertones, Buzzcocks… this band will change your ‘homelife’ !

SOCIAL SECURITY: The first band to have a record released on Heartbeat, and a true DIY producion - a four track EP recorded live in the drummers' basement. Hailed as charming rustic by John Peel, the band also had tracks on the legendary Avon Calling releases. They were one of the hardest working live acts around, easily recognisable by the unique sound of the Vox Teardrop guitar. .
