Cuculi Presents an evening with ÂELLIN & Bea Piper in the sonorous acoustic of The Orchard Coffee & Co on Sunday 11 June.

ÂELLIN is a multilayered folk & ambient trio of understated virtuosity, led by visionary lyricist Siân Magill on vocals, cello, guitars, synths and whatever else she feels like, joined by Henry Edmonds (Solana) on bass & synths, and Chris Langton (Snazzback) on drums & percussion. Siân's deep grounding in literature sits alongside her thorough explorations in granular synthesis and intuitive ear for vocal melody, forging a mode of songwriting that is at once mythically poetic and still rooted in the personal/emotional.

Bea Piper is an Easton-based vocalist and songwriter who is often found performing with The Good Beast. Powered by a voice that could stop a train, her solo performances comprise a collection of melismatic songs and wistful banjo tunes that oscillate between devastating vulnerability and her customary wit.

We expect this show to sell out, so we strongly recommend buying tickets in advance from our three tiers: general release (£10); low income (£7); community supporter (£14). Having multiple ticket tiers makes the event accessible to people on different incomes while still making sure the artists take home a decent wage. Please consider which tier is most affordable for you - the low income option is capped, but talk to us if we've sold out of that option and a higher tier is not accessible for you.

ÂELLIN

“the crowd is subdued, engaged. Magill’s smooth vocals and masterful jazz guitar playing set the scene … Emotion and musical excellence are at the forefront of the show" - B247

ÂELLIN is the folk & ambient songwriting project fronted by multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Siân Magill - an evocation of joy, curiosity, grief and love - and a reflection of the eternal search for connection, communion, and silver-lining songs.

Moving away from traditional songwriting structures, the project seeks to unpick real-world emotive and visceral experience. Working with literary reference and intertextuality, the songs explore concepts of narrative, memory, unconscious experience and the diffusion of linearity. The audio-world meanders through a diversity of genres, working with a rich canvas of textural elements including folk guitar, jazz guitar, percussive sound design, cello, double bass, warming sub-bass, augmented vocal textures, and ambient & granular synths.

The name ÂELLIN derives from the greek name meaning whirlwind. It is bounded by the diminutive suffix -in (Irish descent), giving the translation ‘Little Whirlwind’, and the circumflex (Â) which pays homage to Welsh orthography and heritage in the songwriter’s name.

BEA PIPER

Bea Piper sounds like the watercolours she paints, all shapes and bold colours in memorable fragments of melody. She sings with her whole body, delivering her songs with a honeyed punch of powerful vulnerability.

She released her debut album 'You in your underwear' in 2021, quickly followed by 'Creatures', an EP of alt-rock and tender melancholia. Balancing irresistibly catchy hooks with the deep, brief sobriety of old heartbreak country ballads, her songs stitch together enduring stories of her search for connection in these strange dystopian times. She is also the vocalist for local psych rock project The Good Beast.
