Gene Krupa is a legendary jazz drummer and it is his drumming that is heard throughout the movie. The actor who plays him, Sal Mineo, studied with Gene Krupa for two years in order to mime the drum parts - he does an amazing job of it too!
The actress who plays Gene Krupa's girlfriend, Susan Kohner, won a Golden Globe for the best new actor. The iconic jazz singer Anita O'Day also makes a cameo appearance. There are other jazz luminaries as well, e.g. Bobby Troup, (he wrote: Get Your Kicks on Route Sixty Six), plays Tommy Dorsey. Red Nichols appears as himself, he was a contemporary of Krupa, and a brilliant cornet player and arranger, who recorded with Krupa.

All in all, it's a great musical and cinematic extravaganza. As usual the movie will be introduced by Natalie Davis and Dave Merrick with some relevant songs and a spoken word introduction.
