Transatlantic Trio Brings ‘Patchwork Tour’ to Bristol - Celebrating Unity, Diversity, And Creativity. Support comes from Bristol based songwriter, Holly Carter.
The story of A Different Thread began on the streets of Galway, Ireland, where Robert Jackson of Lichfield, England, and Alicia Best from Durham, North Carolina, first crossed paths while busking. Their spontaneous harmonies sparked a creative partnership that has flourished over eight years of independent music-making and extensive touring. Joined by Mike Seal on double bass, A Different Thread promises a unique blend of folk, blues, and Americana that has garnered praise for its authentic delivery and potent songwriting.
Joining them on stage will be singer-songwriter and multi-award-winning instrumentalist, Holly Carter. At 29, Holly has already established a reputation as one of Bristol’s leading finger-style guitarists and is one of the UK’s only professional female pedal steel players. Drawing inspiration from a varied musical upbringing, her musicality entwines aspects of folk, roots and Americana to create a mix that echoes everything from the likes of Gillian Welch to Chet Atkins.
"This show is a special stop on A Different Thread's 'Patchwork Tour', which spans over 20 cities and towns across the UK," shared the band in a statement. More than just music, this tour embodies community spirit. Audience members are encouraged to bring a small square of fabric or cloth to contribute to a collaborative art piece—a quilt symbolizing unity, diversity, and creativity. Contributors stand a chance to win this unique creation at the tour's conclusion.
"In a world where music weaves our lives together, this patchwork tour celebrates how it enriches our connections with eachother,” added the band. Demonstrating their commitment to sustainability, A Different Thread opposes the fast fashion fabric market by crafting their shirts from upcycled fabric. Audience members are invited to bring their own clothing items for a personalized stencil design during the show.
