Cocos Lovers:

Operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk, Cocos Lovers (pronounced Co-Coss) are a distinctive musical force, seamlessly channelling influences from Africa, the US Deep South and several other real and imagined corners of the globe, while staying ever faithful to their Kentish roots. Hailing from the small but musically rich town of Deal, they are a close-knit 7-piece band of family, friends and former au pairs. Their music swells with powerful choir-like harmonies and glorious widescreen melodies, and they've earned a reputation for fantastic live performances with an ever-changing instrumental line-up of mandolin, banjo, acoustic and electric guitars, harmonica, violin, musical saw, flute and a unique blend of drums and percussion.

Cocos Lovers have become big festival favourites with performances at Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk Festival, Green Man Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week, amongst others. They've toured the UK and Europe to great acclaim, supported Mumford and Sons and Stealing Sheep, count Laura Marling and BBC6's Guy Garvey, Cerys Matthews and Tom Robinson amongst their fans, and have received further airplay on various American, European and Antipodean radio networks.

June 2013 sees the band embark on their Gold or Dust UK Tour which is then followed by their third Album release in early July!

Will Varley

In 2001 Will Varley invented music as we know it today. After a short stint playing the acoustic clubs of London, he was signed up to EMI records with a half a million pound contract. The following year his first single got to number 497 in the Afghan charts. Around the same time, due to the pressure of this success and a rigorous touring schedule, Varley started experimenting with hardcore drugs. By 2005 he was having drugs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One time he even mistook a small child for a drug and tried to inhale him.

After a long break from music, Varley has finally revealed he is working on a new record which will be made up entirely of Wham! covers. In a statement last week Varley said'They were always a big influence on me, right from the start, so I wanted to give something back to them'. The album'Whamalo Varley Wham' will be released on Smugglers records June 2014

The Minke Whales

The Minke Whales are a five-piece based in Bristol. Formed in 2009 by Edinburgh singer songwriter Stuart Reid (formerly of Shifty Disco Records band, Seagull Strange), bassist Neil Hughes, banjo player Tim Moore and drummer Chris Mapp when they discovered their collective love of recording demos in allotment potting sheds.

The whisperers locally suggest songs that blend a smidgen of twisted folk, Arcade Fire mixed with a healthy dollop of Mazzy Starr that, with Reid's grizzled and endearing Scottish vocal gruff and co singer Elle Ashwell's soulful English nightingale, gives them an honest and intoxicating vocal concoction you immediately want to hear again. All this wrapped up in sweet melodies, dark lyrics and banjo laden stomping stompingness.
