"Sell out warning! East meets west in a Thai disco / Dutch kosmische nuclear fission of psychedelic joy. Bombastic dancefloor grooves, snaking 12 string guitar lines, kung-fu samples and an amazing back story starting at ballet school. Someone get these guys a film contract! Epic FFO: Khruangbin, Altın Gün, Kikagaku Moyo, the Kill Bill soundtrack."

In ancient Chinese philosophy, YIN YANG refers to a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be in balance, complementary, and interdependent in the natural world.
The Maastricht-based band known as YĪN YĪN, however, embraces misbalance and its contemplative freedom in order to push the boundaries of its creative musicality.
At a ballet school in a remote village near the Alpaca Mountain, Yīn Yīn started out as an in-studio experimental project by Kees Berkers and Yves Lennertz, exploring the potentialities of South East Asian music from the 60s and 70s.
Over recent years, the project has evolved into an energetic live experience, celebrating a mix of world music, disco, funk and electro, deeply infused with the individual musical background of its individual members.
YĪN YĪN’s new album, The Age Of Aquarius, is a simple, direct appeal to dance. It is also a record blessed with a considerable hinterland; with cosmic time, long studio hours and a determination to transcend the daily ennui of living in the Dutch city of Maastricht all playing their part.
The beautiful, old and somewhat staid city of Maastricht, where the band is based, isn’t really conducive to setting up a bustling music scene: and it’s a place where the outsiders quickly recognise each other. YĪN YĪN are all “nightlife people”, which meant their friendship initially came about through co-organising and DJing DIY parties.
"Where to place YĪN YĪN on the map? Maybe somewhere between Netherlands and South-East Asia on an imaginary tropical island."

- Reuben Vaun Smith -
On support, Leeds based Reuben Vaun Smith comes at us with a sonic odyssey through lo-fi Balearic and Afro-Caribbean influenced synth.
Smith’s most recent material continues his exploration into improvised live instruments and programming, while venturing into new territories of music-making and genres including soca, benga and trip hop.
Also sliding into the mix are organic sounds and riffs reminiscent of 2000s Villalobos sunrise scorchers such as ‘Waiworinao’, keeping the Balearic thread firmly present.
+ Erratic Batting DJs - spinning all manner of oddball oddities.
