Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Free entry / PWYC! Descending on the Lanes with a debut album of galloping, anthemic power-indie in tow, Runner Up give big nods to moody, National-esque post-rock and plenty of sly winks to the post-Britpop years. Since 2015 Dave has performed live with several Bristol artists including Fenne Lily, Nicholson Heal, Ellie James, and The Malago Ballroom, as well as releasing music under his own name. In 2021 Dave became a member of Novo Amor's live band and ideas for a new solo album were put on the back burner to make way for a busy touring schedule. However, between tours Dave started recruiting his musical friends to help him chip away at these dormant songs. This slowly became a much more collaborative process than planned, deserving of a new project with a new name, and resulting in a full album mixed by Andy Monaghan of Frightened Rabbit.

'Departure Fever' blends together influences from indie, post-rock, pop, and americana to form a musical journey full of twists and turns. From big singalong choruses and raucous walls of noise, to delicate story-telling and playful lyricism, all human emotions are embraced in this exploration of the human condition.

Knocking about releasing music since 2013, Bristol guy Mike Griffiths makes alt-rock/power-pop records and plays them live with his best mates. Two full-length albums, complete with their B-side counterparts, and a bunch of EPs are out there with plenty more on the horizon.

Foxwhelp is the moniker of guitarist and songwriter Joe Williams who leads a collective of musical friends, together crafting songs full of stories of home, love lost, and connections found. Drawing on both traditional and modern instrumentation, they weave their own tapestry of folk fusion. (For fans of Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens)
