A
event
held at The Island
on Wednesday 30th October. The event starts at 19:30.
Brook Tate is a painter, musician and theatre maker who for a long time hated only one thing...maths. Until now...
After a stint of very vivid dreams, an unexpected connection with a long dead mathematician and a foot injury in India, Brook quite literally tripped and stumbled into the world of calculations and came out covered in paint and a passion to change how we are taught maths.
Using ten colours and three shapes, Brook invented (or in a way, discovered) Multicolour Maths - a pattern based method which is proving to change not only his attitude toward the 'M' word, but inspiring many others fall in love with numbers.
In this presentation/talk/rambling show, Brook will share the story of how the universe seemed to be nudging and bumping him in the direction of discovery, and how following the most random ideas can sometimes lead to beautiful results.
(Although Multicolour Maths may look like its only for young learners, it is most definitely open to all ages. This talk however, is not designed to keen young young kids entertained...! So probably 10+ I'd say!
I'll also be running workshops throughout the week so keep an eye on the timings of those too!)
Unfortunately the Island Gallery does not have wheelchair access, and I am really hoping to be able to get some funding to show this exhibition in more accessible spaces. If you would like to see the video of the talk then please get in touch!
