CREATIVE MOVEMENT LABS at The Island
See event details

A event held at The Island on Tuesday 19th November. The event starts at 11:30.

Calling all movers, visual artists and photographers in Bristol!

Are you looking for a space and community of movers and dance artists to try out creative or choreographic ideas on? Or maybe you'd like to be part of someone else's experiments and get inspired by others? Would you like to practise facilitating structured movement workshops but not sure where to start? Or have you devised your own work and need some help or feedback with your project?
Are you a photographer or artist that is looking to capture movement and are happy to use what is already happening in the room?

Bristol Creative Movement Labs are hosting a monthly 2 hour Tuesday morning session, for dance artists in Bristol to gain experience in facilitating, trying out ideas, sharing work and giving feedback. Sessions are structured with one practitioner facilitating a warm up (30 mins), one practitioner experimenting with an idea on other participants (1 hour), and one practitioner sharing some solo work or an idea at the end, on which they can receive feedback from the group (20 mins). We are aiming to make this as affordable as possible, and will be asking for a small fee towards hiring the space ( £5).

This is our initial proposal and we are very happy for things to shift in order to serve everyone’s dance practice in the best way we can.

Practitioners that will be facilitating will be announced in advance each month.

November: Ella Amalfitano and Annie Kellher will be sharing their practice with us this month!

Annie Kelleher: I’m currently working on a duet exploring how the climate emergency will effect our bodies and how that may impact our relationships in the future. As a contemporary dance theatre maker my work is characterised by its narrative depth, exploring the complexities and absurdities of modern life through a visceral movement language. My work aims to make complex themes approachable, allowing audiences to share in the beauty and humanity of dance.
Within this session I’ll be leading a few creative tasks exploring this; they will be movement focused but might also involve writing, speaking and maybe some contact work.

Please get in touch if you would like to:
-facilitate a 30 minute warm up:
-experiment ideas on other bodies for up to 1.5 hours;
-want to share a scratch work and receive feedback on

Those who want to move, dance and be creative please come along, no need to enquire in advance. Please note this is a consent-based space and any contact work will need to be flagged in advance in order for us to ensure all participants are aware. All participants are welcome to opt in or out of tasks in order to do what is best for them.
