ABOUT THE AREA and WHY WE'RE HERE:
The area once had dockers who protested for better working conditions, and Bristolians like Easton-born Ben Tillett was an ardent supporter thereof.
Nationally, Tillett helped establish the Dock, Wharf, Riverside and General Labourers’ Union, achieve better wages for dock workers, better job security, & a greater recognition of Workers’ Rights in the UK.
Tillett wrote:-
"The situation of the 130,000 port workers was truly pitiable; most got only five to seven months’ work a year..."
Now, are we likening these sentiments to our ethos including our equal pay structure for every single comedian (who still aren't considered artists in the UK by the way) that we platform? YES! Is it tenuous? Maybe a bit.
N.B. : the more we make through tickets, the more we can pay acts! But please only give as much as you can comfortably.
