Ear Trumpet Music Presents: Rachel Newton. Seated Show at The Folk House, 40a Park St, BS1 5JG - All Ages (Under 18s to be accompanied by a responsible adult)
Singer, harpist and composer Rachel Newton draws on poems and ballads that are hundreds of years old, working them into her contemporary style to create a rich sound that is ambitious, original and unique. Previously awarded Musician of the Year at both the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award and the Scots Trad Music Award, Rachel has had two of her solo albums shortlisted in the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award. She also has a Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland for Best Use of Music and Sound.
A skilled collaborator, Rachel is a member of The Furrow Collective, The Lost Words: Spell Songs and more recently a duo project Heal & Harrow with fiddler Lauren MacColl. She has worked across various platforms including theatre and storytelling.
To The Awe, Rachel’s latest album, places women at the centre of the narrative, at various stages of life and often marking a coming of age and an acquisition of power. The record is a tribute to the women who have inspired Rachel and is influenced by her recent work around the representation of women in the music industry.

Lon Dubh
Lon Dubh are a three part harmony trio singing hypnotic original songs inspired by landscapes of Ireland and its ancient folklore. Expect carefully crafted songs for three voices that sound like they’ve always existed.
Hailing from Ireland and England, Lon Dubh are Branwen Kavanagh, Anna Ling and Anna Anise. Summer 2023 saw their first international performance as a trio at Stimmen Festival Ettiswil in Switzerland.
All three are established solo artists in their own right, drawing upon folk traditions in their own unique ways.
Branwen Kavanagh is a prolific composer and songwriter, musician, sculptor, storyteller, puppeteer, visual artist, writer of surreal visual plays and a lively adventurer from the West of Ireland. Most of the songs the trio will sing are Branwen’s original compositions.
Anna Ling is a playful and poetic singer/songwriter, choir leader, and music teacher who connects audiences with her engaging charisma and sing-a-long sections. She’s influenced by a strong connection to traditional British folk music and a long-running fascination with weird and wonderful singing styles from across the globe.
Anna Anise is a folk musician and arts producer, folding traditional Celtic tunes into her songwriting and supporting fellow women and non-binary artists through creative projects. She’s never far away from storytelling lyricism and enigmatic melodies.
Between them, Branwen, Anna Ling and Anna Anise have a wealth of experience in the folk/alt scenes playing at festivals and venues across the country. The trio have been deepening their sound at an old mill in the South Devon countryside this year, and are now embarking on their May UK tour.
‘[Lon Dubh] had an entirely seamless blend between their voices and yet also found space to express their individual personalities, often veering into hilarity between mesmerising songs of death and longing.’
Beth Roberts, Cuculi Records
‘This bright and joyful trio light you up with playful melodies and stunning harmonies... With whispers of Irish folklore, trad folk and jazz ... the way they’ve craft each song highlights their individuality and their vocal solidarity.’
