Vincent Moon's Cinema w/ Dali de Saint Paul at The Cube
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Totally unique live and improvised cinematic experience from the AV-editing, globe-trotting, ethnographic brain of Vincent Moon. Like Alan Lomax meets free jazz (or just LSD meets National Geographic channel), Mr Moon weaves hallucinogenic tapestries from his footage of rare shamanic rituals, accapella mountain songs and scenes from the global village."

"This wheel under which we turn is like a magic lantern. The sun is the lamp; the world is the screen. We are the passing images" - Omar Khayyâm

Doozy Magazine & The Cube Microplex present the live cinema of Vincent Moon, visionary nomad of planetary music, offering a new approach to ceremony and cinema.

Live cinema is a performance combining live mixed cinema, music on stage and in the projected films, and the search for a new hybrid format of relationship with the spectator. Through a long, hypnotic possession, it reinvents the context of a music and a cinema that accesses its environment and the energy of the sacred.

Vincent Moon is an independent French filmmaker and sound explorer. He was the co-creator of the Blogothèque‘s ‘Concerts à emporter’ devoted to Western indie music. For more than twenty years he has been a nomad, travelling the world with a camera on his back, documenting popular and sacred music, trance ceremonies and sound experiments for his Petites Planètes Collection, which to this day includes more than 1,300 films, all published in open source.

In search of a contemporary form of connection with the image, breaking away from Western narrative while questioning the hybridisation of our digital practices, his ‘Live Cinéma’ opens up to another way of thinking about the relationship with the spectator. An optical ritual, a call to the personal unconscious hidden behind our collective images, an endless research into contemporary trance, Vincent Moon’s ‘Live Cinéma’ is an intense visual and sonic improvisation based on the entirety of his musical research around the world.

At the heart of his approach for sharing and experimenting, as an endless quest for the beauty of the world, the ´Live Cinéma´ is also an ongoing critique of all forms of ownership and borders, in complete transparency. A performance adapted to the venue, it sometimes involves local musicians and artists who take part in this game of magic mirrors held up to reality.

Support comes from Dali de Saint Paul: a raw experimental vocalist, a performer, a composer, a producer and cultural actor of the Bristol experimental music scene.

In her music, Dali’s particular use of vocals through fx blurs sonic borders, questions gender stereotypes and destabilizes spatial and linguistic borders; as lyricist, she mixes poetics and politics bringing intensity to her performances.
