High schooler Kiroku Nanbu yearns for the prim, Catholic Michiko, but her only desire is to reform Kiroku's sinful tendencies. Hormones raging, Kiroku channels his unsatisfied lust into the only outlet available: savage, crazed violence. Fighting Elegy is a unique masterpiece in the diverse career of Seijun Suzuki, combining the director’s signature bravura visual style with a brilliantly focused satire of machismo and fascism.

As part of our Japanuary season, and to celebrate the launch of a new publication dedicated to Seijun Suzuku, we're screening a double bill of films by this most delightfully unhinged of Japanese directors.

Stick around for Tokyo Drifter at 5pm, and pick up a copy of Bristol artist Andrew Wilson's riso-printed chapbook, featuring illustrations by seven artists responding to Suzuki's films.

Entry requirements: 16+
