Flux Gourmet + Sonic Catering - 8pm at The Cube
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Peter Strickland takes the saying ‘don’t play with your food’ and sprints in completely the opposite direction. The grossly fascinating Flux Gourmet is a part-autobiographical, messy and morbidly comedic horror filled with clashing art egos, avant-garde culinary theatrics and…farts (seriously). Here, paired with a performance from improv trio Persimmonomenon. "

Flux Gourmet + Live Sonic Catering Performance
Dir: Peter Strickland, 2022, UK, English language, 1 hr 51 mins, Cert: 15

Sat 28 December // 20:00
Tickets: £5

Welcome to the Sonic Catering Institute, a creative retreat for artists whose work occupies a place somewhere between avant-garde music and outré cuisine.

Run by the eccentric Jan Stevens (Gwendoline Christie), the Institute is hosting a trio comprising the severe and unbending Elle di Elle (Strickland regular Fatma Mohamed), the troubled Lamina Propria (Ariane Labed) and Jan’s soon-to-be lover Billy Rubin (Asa Butterfield). Documenting the residency is self-proclaimed ‘hack’ journalist Stones (Makis Papadimitriou), whose digestive troubles are as turbulent as his subjects’ creative process. As Stones becomes embroiled in the band’s personal relationships, so too he increasingly finds himself an artistic participant.

Flux Gourmet draws on writer-director Peter Strickland’s time in experimental group The Sonic Catering Band to create another wildly original cinematic universe for audiences to eat up.

Following the film, we will be serving a live sonic catering performance by occasional Bristol improvising group Persimmonomenon (Regina Collage, Holly McIntosh, Steve Watson) as a digestif.
