Dead Mountaineers Hotel - 8pm at The Cube
£5

A event held at The Cube on Friday 28th March. The event starts at 20:00.

New Cube strand Remember Tomorrow join forces with old regulars Hellfire Video Club to screen this incredible Estonian sci-fi mystery, based on a story by Soviet-Russian brothers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky – authors of ‘Stalker’ and ‘Hard to be a God’.

Following an anonymous call-out to investigate a routine crime, orthodox Inspector Peter Glebsky arrives at a snowbound hotel in an isolated mountain peak, and slowly begins to realise things are not quite as they seem. Initially no more than a bit flummoxed by the rather eccentric denizens of this strange outpost, his formal rationality begins to come apart at the seams as he and the guests are trapped following an avalanche, and an increasingly bizarre series of events occur. What secrets does this remote outpost hide? And how will he face them?

Coming on something like a murder mystery slowly succumbing to a dose of dissociative hallucinogens, Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel mixes elements of Noir and Giallo with oblique, metaphorical Soviet era sci-fi; combining spectacular modernist aesthetics (look at those sets!), with a unique atmosphere which successfully merges claustrophobic gloom with a kind of playful cosmic wonder. Come and check in!

'Remember Tomorrow' is an exploration of the lost utopias promised to us in 20th century science fiction, particularly those works made behind the iron curtain throughout the years of the Cold War. Look out for more screenings throughout 2025!

HFVC DJs will be spinning kosmische platters in the bar before and after the screening.
