Luigi Marino + Raph Clarkson + Harriet Riley at The Bristol Fringe
See event details

A gig held at The Bristol Fringe on Tuesday 6th May. The event starts at 20:00.

Luigi Marino is a Bristol-based musician whose work explores emergent phenomena involving people, objects, and whatever lies in between their shifting definitions. An active improviser, he performs on electronic media and percussion, focusing on the zarb, the computer as an instrument mediating human decision-making, and custom cymbals played with bows and extended through DIY portable circuits.

Tonight, Luigi will perform a short solo set on the Zarb and Zarb e Zurkhaneh (traditional Persian drums), before being joined by Raph Clarkson on trombone for a freely improvised duo set, part of their ongoing musical collaboration which formed two years ago in Bedminster, South Bristol.

The second half of tonight's show will feature a new trio formation of Luigi, Raph and Bristol percussion legend Harriet Riley on the vibraphone. Equally inspired by Jlin, Baka Polyphony and Morton Feldman, the music brings together eclectic and unusual sounds and ideas through the relationships and intuitive choices made by members of the trio. Expect hypnotic, experimental sound worlds and the emergence of traditional music from an unknown society....
