The Shed session 2: ‘Working with transcriptions' at The Bristol Fringe
See event details

A event held at The Bristol Fringe on Tuesday 4th June. The event starts at 17:00.

This session is intended as an introduction to working with transcription as part of your jazz learning. It will be a really fun session! This is aimed equally at younger jazz learners 13+, as well as continuing, and adult learners. Whatever level you are at, working with transcription can be immensely useful and fun! :)

Working with transcriptions can:
- Help you build a jazz language
- Improve your ear
- Improve your sense of feel and groove
- Get you connected to, and constantly inspired by, something you love the sound of!!

In the session Alex will unpick some useful ways of approaching transcription as everyone can do it, once they know some good ways in to it….
Skills covered in the session:
- Slowing down solos to learn phrases
- How to understand and practice language from solos
- How to develop upon/ personalise the language you have transcribed
- Some good tips for playing solos with the track (useful metronome practice etc.)

This won’t be a practical session so no need to bring your instruments, but bring questions about your favourite solos you would like to transcribe and I will try and help!
See you there, and look forward to getting stuck into this really useful part of jazz, and musical learning with you!

Entry requirements: no age restrictions
