El Knight + Alex Dover at the arc
5.00 £

A gig on Friday 2nd May. The event starts at 20:00.

Bristol’s genre‑bending singer‑songwriter El Knight returns on 2 May with MANTRA, a self‑produced third album that fuses smoke‑soaked trip‑hop atmospherics with snarling psych‑rock guitars. Since debuting with 2020’s
I Can See the Sun Is Burning Out, Knight has cultivated a loyal underground following through relentless gigging across venues such as The Louisiana, The Cloak & Dagger and Sofar Sounds and a disciplined release cadence that includes 2022’s darker LP In Light of My Contempt and 2023’s transitional Save Our Souls EP. Early singles “Killer”, “I Hope You Do” and February’s “Do or Die” trail MANTRA’s louder, riff‑forward edge without abandoning the reverb‑drenched groove that anchors Knight’s smoky vocals.

Writing, performing and engineering alone in their Bristol flat, the non‑binary multi‑instrumentalist harnessed stacked guitar pedals, dusty drum machines and modular synth swells to craft ten brooding tracks exploring devotion, rage and catharsis. Fans of Portishead’s cinematic gloom or Wolf Alice’s fuzz‑laden crescendos will feel at home, yet Knight’s deft genre‑alchemy lands squarely in its own lane. If the breath‑holding tension of the pre‑release cuts is any guide, MANTRA could be the record that propels one of the UK’s fearless shape‑shifters far beyond the West‑Country underground, cementing their uncompromising artistic autonomy throughout.

Entry requirements: 16+
