"One-man sophisto-soul renaissance machine Eddie Chacon scores a spiritual night of cosmic-leaning, big band soothing with all the trimmings. Easily one of the most authentically navigated, nostalgia-free comeback stories of the century (would I lie to you?) Totally unmissable FFO: D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Stones Throw, Blood Orange, Roy Ayers, Marvin Gaye."

Strange Brew presents
Eddie Chacon (Stones Throw records) - full band show feat. Knats
+ Daudi Matsiko
+ Alamay
Weds 30th Oct
7pm - 10:30pm
“Low-key R&B legend" Eddie Chacon made an indelible mark in popular music as half of the duo Charles & Eddie, whose 1992 single “Would I Lie to You” was a number one hit heard around the world. The group’s 8-million-records-sold rocket to the stars lasted a few years, and Eddie spent the next couple of decades carving out a career as a photographer and creative director. He returned to music in 2020, with a project produced by John Carroll Kirby, who has also worked with notable artists such as Solange and Frank Ocean. Eddie signed to Stones Throw Records in 2022 where "Sundown," received widespread critical acclaim.
You need to check his stuff if you don't already know! For fans of: Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, John Carrol Kirby, Jimi Tenor, DāM FunK, Ronald Langestraat, Haruomi Hosono, Sam Gendel...
Daudi Matsiko
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Ugandan singer-songwriter and guitarist Daudi Matsiko carefully crafts modern albeit reverent folk. Deft, melancholic picking reminiscent of Nick Drake is tempered by contemporary percussion and instrumentation, and Matsiko’s vocals derive their strength from their seeming fragility, a warble in notes that may or may not be intentional. With every song, his confessional lyrics cut to the marrow.
Alamay
Bristol Neo Soul + RnB rising star Alamay completes a triple bill. With an immersion in Soul and Jazz from an early age, Alamay’s style draws on inspiration from these rich, timeless sounds as well as her Ethiopian heritage. One of Bristol’s most promising new talents, we had to get her back after a killer performance supporting Secret Night Gang recently!
