"It’s been an honour to trace Stanlaey’s mercurial metamorphosis from Bristol jazz/folk scene regular into something so rare and unique. Now with a greater emphasis on avant-garde electronic inclinations, she brings her lilting voice, celestial harp and 7 piece band to blow fans of Björk, Julia Holter and Kate Bush away. "

A
gig
held at Strange Brew
on Tuesday 6th December. The event starts at 19:00.
We’re incredibly excited to host the launch of Bristol based singer, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist, STANLÆY (Bethany Stenning)’s new album: ‘the_everything_inbetween’ at Strange Brew.
The album itself is released on Thurs 1st Dec, giving you the weekend to digest the studio recording before experiencing its wonders on a whole new level amidst STANLÆY’s immersive live performance.
The album was recorded over a 2-3 year period, overlapping into the pandemic in 2020. It was then mixed at J & J studios with Jim Barr, fully masked, during the pandemic. Themes of identity, an eternal journey of self-discovery, spirituality and human relationship with technology lie at its core.
the_everything_inbetween is an homage to Bethany’s approach to sound design and production, classical composition and the Bristol Jazz scene - all of which have informed her sound in a unique way.
Collaboration as a method for connection has fuelled the process ~ featuring a stream of influential musicians and friends from the local scene; musicians from Snazzback, Waldo’s Gift and Solana, showing the breadth of collaboration between genres.
Gelatinous synths conversing with classical harp, tarot jazz songs, and celestial fluorescent sound worlds; the_everything_inbetween is a mesh containing several versions of the same landscape as it mutates through the multiverse.
Lineup:
> Ben Holyoake (bass)
> Joe Milkinson (kit)
> Naomi Hill (violin)
+ Special Guests:
> Dave Sanders (saxophone, Snazzback)
> Myke Vince (percussion, Snazzback)
> Alun Elliot-Williams (additional electric guitar, Waldo’s Gift)
> Alex Veitch (keys, AV trio)
- Memotone -
With a string of releases on Black Acre Records, and collaborations that include the likes of Phaeleh and Dmitry Evgrafov, we are truly honoured to welcome Bristol's Memotone.
Memotone will be combining layers of samples, live electronics and multi-instrumentation to craft a truly immersive ambient experience.
- boci -
+ boci (pronounced bocky) is a classically trained violinist, vocalist and self-taught guitarist, pianist and songwriter. Violin and guitar looping is the foundation on which much of boci’s music is built.
Her experience as a collaborator in Bristol has informed her fusionesque musical style, which draws influence from traditional singer-songwriters, electronic pop, Celtic and Balkan folk and prog rock.
