+ special guests
Thurs 13th Feb 2024
7pm - 10pm

Mary Ocher has been pushing the boundaries of pop and avant-garde music for nearly two decades. A punk poet, sound artist, director and visual artist. She was born two years after 1984 in the capital city of the largest country in the world. She is of Jewish/Ukrainian descent. Her parents moved to Tel Aviv during the Gulf War, there she grew up absorbing xenophobia and nationalism from an early age, as a result, questioning authority and the myth of nationhood have become central topics in her work, which is often accompanied by essays.

A Berlin resident since the age of 20, and an outspoken critic of both Russia and Israel, and their occupations.

She has toured in 40 countries with her previous releases – several of which were recorded with Hans Joachim Irmler of Krautrock pioneers Faust.

Mary Ocher has become an icon of Berlin underground music while cultivating a loyal following across the world. She performs solo, as well as with her two drummers, Your Government.

Throughout her career, Ocher has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including post-rock giants Mogwai, electronic moguls Red Axes, psych/rocknroll guru King Khan, avant-garde legends Die Tödliche Doris, Julia Kent and Felix Kubin among many more, showcasing her versatility and passionate commitment to the preservation of underground music.

She also put out an autobiographical comic book by 23 artists (MOOP!), a Ukraine fundraising EP to rebuild destroyed houses, and curated a charity compilation in support of girls' education in Afghanistan. Mary is the founder of The Underground Institute - a platform for culture whose main focus is challenging female artists, multidisciplinary and genre-bending artists.

It releases music and curated programs and shows with artists such as Lydia Lunch, Xiu Xiu, The Space Lady, Ana da Silva (The Raincoats), Oren Ambarchi, KMRU, as well as its own roster: Eve Maret, Martin Rev, Limpe Fuchs and others.
