CONQUEER w/ ANDRAS_2020, KIIK AMOR & BJ HOLY at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Following their UK debut performance at PLU Summer Camp, Andras 2020’s maximalist, contorted and emotive club-pop tops Conqueer’s triple bill gig of avant-garde transcendence. Also featuring KIIK AMOR’s immersive, celestial meta-realms and spectral brass hypnotism from BJ Holy. Immense and intense FFO: Arca, Sarahsson, Galen Tipton, deconstructing the club on a Thursday evening."

Date: October 10th
Doors: 19:30
Curfew: 22:30
Venue: Strange Brew

For our next instalment, this event will mark a new approach for us as we curate an evening entirely dedicated to queer avant-garde performances within the intimate and eclectic setting of Strange Brew. The event will take place within the main room which will be transformed into a dynamic space featuring three distinct stages, each specifically allocated to complement the unique style and energy of the performing artists. Expect an immersive experience as the room evolves with each act offering diverse expressions with highly attuned live AV from RXX_TX.

Update: we have the pleasure of presenting an installation by the multi/cross/hypermedia artist @david_varhegyi. A selection of large scale paintings previously shown at @saga.corp.oh.real's first event at the iconic Rusty Laptop.

Prepare for an evening of groundbreaking live music from queer artists who defy genres and expectations. Their innovative sounds will challenge your perceptions and invigorate your senses, creating an atmosphere of pure euphoria ψ(`∇´)ψ

ANDRAS_2020

Producer, vocalist, DJ and dancer Andras_2020 combines the sonorous ripples of their Latin America with experimental pop, deconstructed club music and avant-garde. With influences that range from baile funk to neo-perreo, their music features lyrics that encompasses the explicitness of those genres, clashing with hard hitting drums and their soft falsetto.
As a live performer their work happens in the gaps between contemporary dance and club culture, contrasting moments of visceral physicality, screams and poetry that ritualistically evokes themes of survival and physical transformation, with the tenderness of soft pop concerts.

KIIK AMOR

Hyper sonic meta-angel 111, KIIK AMOR rests tied to spirits, a shapeshifting morphological biocentre for species unheard of, unsounded yet; the celestial terraforming of angels voices through hyper sonic states; the sonic persona bi-products left behind and ripped into the xenolalia of roaring cybernetic machina. She enters a world of endless possibilities, endless variations, endless possible worlds, a freak without being, a freak without body. Her access is symbolic, hyper fatal.

BJ HOLY

BJ Holy is an artist from London combining fragments of ambient, dance, choral, noise and orchestral to build cinematic soundscapes.
They are interested in the cracks between disruption and serenity, decay and renewal. With a background in hyper electronic music production, BJ's current practice centres more around potent and emotional live shows with vocals, electronics and digitally-processed flugelhorn that aim to forge an arresting communion with audiences.
In the last 8 months, BJ has performed in London venues like Ormside Projects, Spanners, Rivoli Ballroom, Horse Hospital and Corsica Studios as well as Le Chinois in Paris, alongside artists including Lee Gamble, Babynymph, and Lolo & Sosaku. BJ is currently finishing their debut album and developing bigger live shows to perform in cities across the UK and Europe.

WE ARE HERE. WE ARE QUEER. AND WE WILL CONQUEER.

Hard, dark, and spiky around the edges; CONQUEER is an LGBTQIA+ focussed event series spewing forth from Bristol’s alternative queer scene. Disgorging mutinous and underground sound, shoved in a blender with transgressive music and seditious performances turned-on full blast, for the last three years, our events have staked a flag in the belly of Bristol’s nightlife scene for those communities and queeirdos unholy and wretched with nowhere else to hovel. Our core mission is to continue bringing experimental music, performance, and visual art to the City of Bristol by facilitating such events for artists predominantly identifying as queer, though we also want to support allies who strongly share our values. We hope to nurture such performers and collaborator’s capacity to imagine and create, regardless of experience, background, or training, and showcase their work.
