A
event
held at Strange Brew
on Sunday 23rd February. The event starts at 19:00.
Bristol Beats is an archive of Bristol’s new emerging artists: beating, grooving and paving the foundations of Bristol’s soundtrack. It is historical and experimental imagery, interviews and ideas about Bristol as a city, its changing tunes and why these artists do what they do. The music is unbeatable, it holds memory, bite, fight and dance. It is history and hope.
The event will begin with a performance from Zoe Carr-Smith. This will then be followed by the film screening of Bristol Beats, which will be introduced by Cerys Gadsden. After the screening, there will be performances from Ok Ewan and Getdown Services.
Cerys Gadsden is a recent film graduate who in her free time has curated various film projects. Her newest and most challenging is Bristol Beats, an experimental documentary that is made up of grainy, home-video-like footage, gig photography, archival footage and Bristol-based music. It picks apart the beginnings, present and future of Bristol’s music scene, calling all viewers to question the city and its artistic influence on the people that live in it.
As it is a passion project, all profits will be donated to The Aid Box Community. The Aid Box Community is a Bristol-based humanitarian organisation set up by a group of ordinary people in response to the continuing refugee crisis. The charity supports asylum seekers and refugees with a free shop & welcome hub, activity groups, signposting advice, a crisis fund and a befriending service.
