Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Worm Disco Club wriggles into autumn mode to warm Strange Brew with Derya Yildrim & Grup Şimsek’s hot blend of psych-rock meets Anatolian folk meets funk. Undeniably 70s influenced without falling into retro-fest territory, these are some serious grooves FFO Khruangbin, Altin Gün, La Luz, Kikagaku Moyo, Kit Sebastian."

As part of our Autumn series of Worms Gigs shows, we are proud to present the wonderful Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimsek for their first Bristol gig in over 5 years!

Born in 2014, and with three albums and one EP under their belt, the group has forged a formidable reputation with their heady mix of Anatolian folk, 1970s Turkish rock, psychedelia, pop and jazz.

New interpretations of Turkish classics and the band’s own original compositions seamlessly tie together by inventive arrangements and spellbinding grooves, transcending time as past and present collide in the space of one song.

Derya Yıldırım and Grup Şimşek continue along their psychedelic journey, meandering
through Anatolian folk music and poetry with their electrifying grooves, while also delving into their own lives and personal experiences. Several recent albums on Geneva's 'Bongo Joe' records have helped cement their reputation as one of the best bands around doing the groovy guitar lead 60 and 70's inspired modern beat groove sound. It's impossible not to feel happy and alive when hearing their sweet, smooth and warm productions and songs!

For fans of: Altin Gun, Midlake, Kruangbin, Los Bitchos and lush 70's psychedelic sounds from North Africa, Turkey, The Middle East plus modern melody driven American psych bands!
