A
clubnight
held at Strange Brew
on Saturday 10th June. The event starts at 22:30.
Escalator To Nowhere and DIY festival The Three Wheel Drive present: Bufiman (Dusseldorf / Salon des Amateurs) and Sofay & Ribeka (Glasgow / NTS)
"Jan Schulte - disc-jockey, producer, dancer, rhythm enthusiast and jaw harp player from Dusseldorf, Germany. Never satisfied with musical stereotyping, he produces different odd styles of dance music under various alter egos.
His mysterious krauty records as Wolf Müller sound more like "a lesson in German bongo funk“ with their live recorded percussions and delayed rhythm guitars, his Bufiman records combine tribal disco grooves with stomping bass drums and jacking hi-hats.
Resident DJ at the infamous 'Salon des Amateurs' in Dusseldorf - "the weirdo post-kraut scene's Haçienda" - he was part of the club's expedition into the unknown wilderness of peculiar and experimental dance music. Meanwhile Jan's drum-heavy reworks as Diskoking Burnhart McKoolski for Edits Des Amateurs go for silly prices on the second-hand market.
In his heavily percussive and enthusiastic DJ-Sets he "light-footedly jumps genres and decades from African inspired Krautrock to emotional voodoo-techno to forgotten B-side classics."
And before Jan, two hours of two of Glasgow’s most knowledgeable DJs in Ribeka and Sofay. Their NTS show, which has been transmitting since 2019, is an endless source of the very best, most delicate ambient techno, post punk, and minimal synth music that sits alongside a seamless mix of dub rhythms, EBM and industrial.
At their resident night Ilex at La Cheetah in Glasgow they deliver “club curveballs and tripped out bangers” all night long.
