HBS x CDO Presents Darryn Jones at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"An unsung hero of Chicago club culture, Darryn Jones conquered Bristol hearts and feet way back in 2018 with his disco-fied house beatdown (chucked through a soulfood blender). The legend returns for a euphoric night of funk soul celebration and elevation, attendance is mandatory FFO: Theo Parrish, Ron Hardy, Soundstream, Moodymann, Galcher Lustwerk."

DARRYN JONES
(Durty Truth Records, Chicago)

We are very excited to welcome Chicago-based DJ extraordinaire Darryn Jones to Bristol this Summer. Behind him he has over 30 years of DJ experience, a string of highly-sought after releases on labels such as Hot Biscuit, JustWhatTheWorldNeeds, Fatty Fatty and not forgetting his most recent 'LOVE LETTER LP' on his own Durty Truth imprint, support coming from some of the world's finest DJs such as Louie Vega, DJ Harvey, Red Greg and many many others plus upcoming festival appearances at WeOutHere and Houghton... Darryn is on fire right now, absolutely one of the best to do it and should not be missed by any discerning Disco heads!

Early on, Darryn Jones was drawn to music with his uncles and older brothers. His first influences in music were Funk, Blues, Jazz and anything that didn't get radio play. From there, Darryn became intrigued by the sounds of WBMX's Hot Mix 5 sprinkled with house legends, Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy. Darryn was a true Preppy (before what we now call House).

In 1983 and 1984, Darryn began his deejaying craft of rare grooves by buying records from any place and anyone he could. Darryn continued his quest in the art up to 1987, then stepped away for some years. He never gave up the search for the black gold which turned out to be perhaps a blessing in disguise. On his return in 2006, Darryn brought with him something different to the Chicago House Scene: the "Durties" in Disco Funk, which had been highly rejected. His style has influenced the dark underground, disco and funk scene massively.

Darryn blessed Bristol with a visit back in 2018 and the night is still spoken about today in legendary tones. It's been a long time coming and we are so pleased to be able to present to you another night of the DURTY TRUTH!!! TUNEZ WILL BE PLAYED!

Completing the bill are two of Bristol's most notorious Disco DJs, Mike Shawe and Admin, who will keep the party hot with their deep selections of funk, soul, secret disco killers, proto-house and lesser-known boogie jams.
