Strange Brew's 4th Birthday Party - & Club at Strange Brew
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Yallah & Debmaster’s always a no-brainer! Potent, frenetic Nyege > World-conquering flow bolstered by a bedrock of glitched-out, searing beats: it’s the ideal lead for Strange Brew’s 4th time round the sun. Plus two live debuts from Kelan & Cruelle’s 50s electro-noir fantasies and SIABT’s industrial fractured illbient. Cos you just can’t spell Bristol without Brew these days…."

Strange Brew's 4th Birthday
Live & Club throwdown
Friday 6th September
9pm - 3am
£10 in!

Strange Brew is 4! To mark the occasion we've assembled a night of live acts that can work the club as much as they can live - celebrating both local and international talent. Mixed in amongst some of Bristol's most on-point DJs. Might be some birthday cake and fun art installations too!

MC Yallah & Debmater LIVE

Kenya-born, Uganda-raised rapper MC Yallah & Nyege Nyege affiliate is capable of high-speed rhymes in Luganda, Luo, Kiswahili, and English, sometimes keeping pace with 300 bpm singeli beats - a spectacle which simply has to be seen to be believed.
Together with the wildly diverse producer Debmaster, they bring the fire to the floor. A combination of conscious and futuristic hip-hop, grime, punk and trap, their signature style is the rare, rapid and tightly controlled flow. Fierce and intense, the lyrics draw from real-life experiences and often address women’s issues spreading a powerful message of integrity and self-determination. "A fierce example of how rap and dance music communities can join forces to push each other forward." — FACT Mag

Kelan & Cruelle present 'Old Guns New Ammo' (LIVE)

Spawned from a handful of smokey late night sessions in Paris and Bristol, Kelan and Cruelle present Old Guns, New Ammo: warped and twisted renditions of 50's Rock and Roll and Country classics. Expect hats and stirrups. FFO: Spell, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Elvis

Shark in a Bathtub (LIVE - World Debut)

FFO: Wordsound Recordings, Scorn, Anticon, Prefuse73, Gold Panda, MF DOOM. Drawing from classic hip hop sample culture filtered through Arthurian / Avonian landscapes, Shark in a Bathtub is the latest project from Bristolian maverick Gordon Apps (of Bad Tracking & Relapse fame) & D.Ham (Parable Of The Empty Cup). Regal rhyme reinventions brush up against drum machine funk, rattling towards the upper limit deemed acceptable for a head nodding convention. Their 2024 EP 'Suspicious Package' on Avon Terror Corps is one of the most exciting transmissions from this fair land and tonight they make their Live debut.

+ DJs:
Anina b2b I-Sha - dubwise club mutations, techno & jungle
Dirtytalk DJ's - house, techno, sleazoid disco & beat workouts
Nadoone - warming things up with whatever she wants
