'Relativity: a contemporary music experience' comes back on 21st September with its fifth instalment!
"The brand new concert series blurring the lines between genre, improvisation and art" - Bristol 24/7

Saint Stephens Church proudly presents New York jazz stars, singer Gabrielle Stravelli and double-bassist Pat O'Leary. The two highly accomplished veteran musicians are on tour in the UK and will stop in Bristol for a guest performance with local musicians.

Gabrielle Stravelli's performances are a unique blend of a tremendous swing feel and a gift for lyric interpretation. Her career is richly varied, marked by highly individual choices and a genuine connection with audiences. The New York Times writes: 'Ms. Stravelli’s emotional intelligence coincides with a phenomenal voice that she wielded with an easy-going confidence and impeccable taste'.

Gabrielle has headlined international jazz festivals including the Cayman Arts Festival, Providencia Jazz Festival in Chile and the Eleuthera Jazz Festival in the Bahamas. She has collaborated with world-renowned jazz pianist Fred Hersch, three times, premiering his song cycle 'Rooms of Light';, and most recently recording a new song cycle for release next year. She toured the U.S. with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra. As a U.S. State Department 'Jazz Ambassador'; since 2015, she has performed and taught throughout Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America.

Pat O'Leary's extensive touring and recording experience is a testament to his musical prowess. He has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, and recorded with a host of jazz legends such as Diana Krall, James Moody and Joe Lovano, and performed at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.

Swiss jazz saxophonist Martin Kern combines a bold sound with an energetic style and has played all over Europe and in the USA. Martin met Pat twenty years ago while living in New York and fondly recalls how they met, saying, 'It was impossible not to run into Pat. He was working all over town and hosting some of the city’s best jam sessions. We instantly connected musically and ended up recording at his place and playing gigs together. As a young musician fresh out of jazz school back then, I appreciated his generous support and encouragement'.

Martin, who is now based in Bristol, has brought together some excellent musicians from the local jazz scene to join Gabrielle and Pat for a special reunion. The band will include the distinctively lyrical trumpeter David Mowat, the talented young pianist Tom Berge, and the hard-swinging drummer Jon Whitfield. This promises to be an exciting, unforgettable evening celebrating vocal and instrumental jazz at its finest.
