held at St George's Bristol
on Wednesday 21st May. The event starts at 19:30.
Join us for the final concert in our spring series as critically acclaimed Saxophonist Sam Crockatt joins the Adam Stokes Trio in paying tribute to Soul Jazz pioneer Eddie Harris.
Sam Crockatt (Loop Collective, John Law’s Re-Creations) is a highly regarded saxophonist, composer and educator. Citing John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins and Lee Konitz among his musical influences, Sam’s ability to marry his understanding of past masters with contemporary styles keeps him constantly in demand.
Sam has performed as part of the LFG Jazz festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Kragujevac Jazz Festival (Serbia) and WDR Festival (Cologne) and made numerous recordings as a sideman and leader. His debut album ‘Howeird’ won a Parliamentary Jazz Award and the following album ‘Flood Tide’ was commended by The Guardian for it’s “Haunting Lyricism”. Critical acclaim for his third release (and first on Whirlwind Recordings) ‘Mells Bells’ has further enhanced his reputation as a composer and leader with All About Jazz describing the album as ”An exceptionally gifted group of musicians gelling together remarkably well... This is yet another excellent example of evidence that British jazz is not merely alive and well, but kicking too.”
