A gig held at St George's Bristol on Wednesday 20th November. The event starts at 19:30.

Join us for another great evening of Jazz as virtuoso Trumpeter Jonny Bruce joins the Adam Stokes Trio in paying tribute to iconic Trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison.

Best known for his work with the Count Basie Orchestra, Frank Sinatra and his extensive Hollywood studio work, “Sweets” is somewhat of an unsung hero of Jazz Trumpet. Jonny is well known across the Bristol Jazz scene and nationally for his deep knowledge of Jazz trumpet from Louis Armstrong through to Freddie Hubbard, his extensive range and beautiful tone. He has performed across the UK as a band leader, with Moscow Drug Club and with countless big bands including The Dockside Latin Orchestra and the Bruce/Illet Big band.

Adam Stokes is an up-and-coming Guitarist blending Jim Hall Style melodic development with Thelonious Monk’s angular dissonances, he is known on the Bristol scene as the host of the Stag and Hounds Jam session where he has played with the who’s who of Bristol Jazz. Riaan Vosloo (Nostalgia 77, Twelves, Ex-Run Logan Run, Ed Jones Quartet) is a highly acclaimed Bassist, Producer, Composer, Arranger and Educator. Riaan has recorded and arranged for Gregory Porter and Jamie Cullum and runs Impossible Ark records, an indie label showcasing creative musicians from the world of Jazz, World folk and Experimental music.

Matt Stockham Brown (6161, Ex-Run Logan Run, Sefrial, Modulusiii, Orfic) is a busy touring drummer who has performed with the likes of Gregory Porter, Pee Wee Ellis and Andy Sheppard, his band Run Logan Run won the 2018 Montreux Jazz Festival Talent Awards and he was featured in Rhythm Magazine’s ’10 British Newcomers’ article.
