A
gig
held at St George's Bristol
on Thursday 17th April. The event starts at 20:00.
Self-taught pianist and composer Daniel Inzani has been a pivotal figure on the Bristol alternative music scene for more than a decade. He leads a neoclassical chamber quartet Spindle Ensemble, co-curates Hidden Notes Festival in Stroud, and he’s worked with a baffling array of outfits, playing Ethiopian funk, Indonesian gamelan and rocksteady, as well as working closely with fellow maverick musicians Alabaster dePlume and Cosmo Sheldrake.
In this very special concert tonight he plays brand new music from his recently released triple-album Selected Worlds with a 12-piece ensemble comprising some of the most original musicians on the local scene. The release was hailed with a 5 star review in The Guardian and listed as contemporary album of the month. It is compelling, deeply imaginative music that grabs the heart and the head in equal measure, and expresses the dazzlingly different faces to Inzani’s musical personality, from neo impressionist chamber and contemporary jazz to brilliantly cinematic soundtracks that evoke whole worlds in the imagination.
“What could be a huge act of hubris is transformed into gold by Inzani’s slightly unhinged sonic adventurousness and his storytelling skills…Someone give this guy a movie soundtrack immediately.” (Guardian)
