Cuculi Presents an evening of imaginative, unpredictable contemporary classical sounds with Spindle Ensemble and Georgie Ward in St Ambrose Church.
With international touring a frequent occurrence for both projects, this is a rare opportunity to see these Bristol & Stroud musicians play so close to home. Spindle Ensemble features Daniel Inzani on piano, Harriet Riley on percussion, Caelia Lunniss on violin and Jo Silverston on cello, constructing graceful sonic structures that soar and dissolve across their distinctive blend of timbres. Georgie Ward is a Bristol-based composer with an increasingly international career who works with piano and analogue synthesizers to create a soundworld of mesmerising rhythm and ambient electronics, ranging from soft, intimate pieces to energetic textures.
We expect this show to sell out, so we strongly recommend buying tickets in advance from our three tiers: general release (£11); low income (£8); community supporter (£15). Having multiple ticket tiers makes the event accessible to people on different incomes while still making sure the artists take home a decent wage. Please consider which tier is most affordable for you - the low income option is capped, but talk to us if we've sold out of that option and a higher tier is not accessible for you.

SPINDLE ENSEMBLE
Since their formation in Bristol in 2016 Spindle Ensemble have garnered much praise for their innovative take on contemporary classical music. Their distinctive sound is a combination of composer Daniel Inzani’s idiosyncratic modern-impressionist pieces, their improvisation, deft musicianship and unorthodox instrumentation of piano and harp (Inzani), violin (Caelia Lunniss), cello (Jo Silverston), marimba and vibraphone (Harriet Riley). Their acclaimed second album Inkling was released by Hidden Notes Records in May 2021 and received features and reviews in the likes of the Big Issue, Electronic Sound, BBC Music Magazine, Louder Than War, Loud and Quiet, Joyzine, A Closer Listen and featured in the Guardian’s 10 Best Contemporary Albums of 2021.
Spindle Ensemble will be performing their album 'Inkling', pieces from their debut album BEA and reimagined versions from their collaboration 'Live In Toronto' with Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan Ensemble in Canada, released earlier this year.

GEORGIE WARD
Georgie Ward is a composer who works with piano and analogue synthesizers to create intense, rhythmic electronic music. Combining her background as a classical pianist and her experience performing with some of the world’s biggest pop stars – such as Dua Lipa and Zara Larsson - her style focuses on high-energy, instrumental synth-pop.
Georgie toured with Dua Lipa as her keyboard player on the 2022 Future Nostalgia world tour, performing at venues such as Madison Square Garden and LA Forum, and headlining festivals including Lollapalooza, Roskilde and Rock in Rio. She has played live for artists Zara Larsson, Yungblud, Cat Burns and Hannah Peel, and performed on recordings for artists including Kylie Minogue and BISHI. Georgie also plays in the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble and Paraorchestra, and is a regular session musician at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.
As part of the 2021 Bristol Keyboard Festival at St. George’s, Georgie performed a sell-out solo show of her work for piano and synthesizers, and her self-released piano pieces have been played on BBC Radio 3.
Georgie’s debut EP Flightless - featuring anthemic riffs, punchy basslines and rich synth textures – is due to be released in the summer of 2023.
