AMRA + guests at Spike Island

A gig on Friday 29th November. The event starts at 19:00.

Join us for a night of experimental music, audiovisual and spoken word performances in a warehouse space at Spike Island. This event is presented in connection with Imran Perretta’s solo exhibition and major new film commission the destructors at Spike Island (28 September to 8 December 2019).

AMRA is an audiovisual collaboration between Imran Perretta and artist-musician Paul Purgas (Emptyset, We Can Elude Control). Their live performance will incorporate electronic sound and analogue media, addressing South Asian identity through diasporic echoes and archival disruption.

Tadleeh is the nascent project of Indian-born, Milan-based musician Hazina Francia (formerly Petit Singe (Haunter Records/NTS Radio)). Her club-heavy, brooding debut release Ego Will Collapse was released in summer 2019 on Berlin’s Yegorka label. The EP invokes states of chaos, disorder and unreason, drawing on the artist’s varied cultural heritage. She will perform a special live AV show.

Abbas Zahedi is a London-based artist whose practice is instinctively collaborative and socially-minded. Building on ideas explored in ROSE WATER (2018) and MANNA from below (2017), Zahedi will present Rose & STEMM (2019), a new work for video, sound and vocal performance of traditional Iranian grieving rites as a way of laying to rest the analytic and categorical biases so often used to exclude diasporic bodies.

Rounding things off is DJ EC Ryder (Noods Radio, Copper Sounds, Dance Party, CHAMP).

Presented in partnership with Qu Junktions

Please be aware: This event will feature strobe lighting.
