Beat Street,1984 captures the emerging hip hop culture that developed in the South Bronx during the 1980's. Produced by the recently departed Harry Belafonte, the film's story focuses on a group of young graffiti artists, breakers, MC's & DJ's as they battle for success and recognition. Real life faces from the scene at the time also make appearances including, Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five, The Rock Steady Crew and Kool Herc.
