Barton Fink at Sidney & Eden
See event details

A event held at Sidney & Eden on Tomorrow. The event starts at 19:30.

For the next screening at the Indie Classics Film Club, we’ll be playing BARTON FINK (1991) on Tuesday 1st April at the Sidney and Eden.

Before hits like Fargo, The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men, the Coen Brothers made Barton Fink, a beguiling mash of up film noir, Hollywood satire, comedy, surrealism and horror.

Set in the 1940s, John Turtorro plays the titular character Barton Fink, a successful New York playwright who moves to Hollywood to pen movies only to find himself stuck with writer’s block, and distracted by his new working class neighbour (played by John Goodman).

One of the Coen Brothers’ most underrated films, the film sees the Coes overcome their own case of writer’s block to create a true original, a funny, mysterious, playful and scathing satire that reflects their own experience trying to make something meaningful while working within the Hollywood system.

Entry is free, and the screening will again take place at the later time of 19.30, with doors opening at 19.00. All are welcome to stay for a drink afterwards!
