You will be entertained by Gnawa Master Mohamed Errebbaa and friends playing Live Gnawa music from Morocco (healing Sufi trance music) while you eat authentic Moroccan cuisine - Tajine (both meat and vegetarian options available) with Moroccan mint tea & cookies.

Venue is The basement of Salama Restaurant. This function room is full of character and charm. You will be transported from Bristol to a Souk in Morocco with fantastic music, food, dancing and a warm welcome.!

Bio:
Mohamed Errebbaa is a Maalem (Master) of Gnawa
music originally from Rabat, Morocco. Mohamed Errebbaa trained in percussion and singing Issawa and Dakka Merrakchiya at the age of 10 years and performed at weddings and special events from then on. He began learning Gnawa as a Koyo (percussion player) learning the Guembri at the age of 16 with Maalems Mustapha Aglaou, Abderahim Benthami, Said Oughassal and Moulay Ahmed. His initiation into the Gnawa tradition took 10 years. He then received the Guembri from the hand of his Master and the title of Maalem or Master in 2008 at age 26.
Mohamed is steeped in traditional Gnawa music which combines a repertoire of over 100 songs with ceremony, dance and rituals practiced for centuries. Gnawa music connects elements of the Arab music of the North and the music of sub-Saharan Africa with Sufi mysticism. The instruments he plays include Guembri (Moroccan Bass);Voice; Castanets; percussion; Djembe & Bendir.
Mohamed Errebbaa has participated in multiple ceremonies and musical collaborations with different Masters in Morocco.
Open to all styles he has been involved in a variety of fusion projects. We find him alongside Nelly Stharre and Trevy Felix in their reggae/ fusion band Rootz Mawon.
In 2010 and 2012, he participated in the artistic residencies of "Terre sans frontières" for the ”And Art” event with musicians such as Korean group "Suri Suri Maha Suri" and he accompanied singer Taz Alexander, flautist Tom Oakes and saxophonist Jacqueline Hynes in Marrakech and Casablanca.
In 2013, he performed for Ateliers 19 "Life" on the occasion of the International Jazz Day in Rabat.
He collaborated with the Israeli composer Rafael
Emmanuel Ran in 2014.
In 2015, he went on tour in South Korea with the band "Majdub" composed of Moroccan musicians.
In 2016 he participated with Tamouzika group at the
"International Festival of Percussion Sousse" Tunisia.
In 2017 he was one of the founders of the band
SahaGroove.
In 2017 he collaborated with Swedish singer songwriter Antonia Vai as well as French singer songwriter Martin Seigneur.
In 2018 he has been performing with Maalem Mokhtar Gania; playing percussion and vocals as part of the band Africa Gnawa Experience. They performed at the Festival of Gnaoua in Essaouira in June and various gigs around Morocco. They participated in Visa for Music Festival in Rabat in November.
In 2019 he participated in the documentary that presented Gnawa to UNESCO. Following that, Gnawa was placed on the Representative list for Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In 2020, he moved to UK and start a collaboration with Justin Adams ,and perform live in BBC Radio 3 .
