Queer Pottery Wheel Night at Ridgeway Studios
See event details

A event on Tuesday 2nd July. The event starts at 18:30.

Are you queer and wanting to meet other queer people in Bristol? Have you also ever wanted to try your hand on the potters wheel? This is a chance to have a go at working on the potters wheel while soaking up some queer joy and connection.

This workshop is facilitated by queer artist and pottery tutor, Jasmine, Who's been making ceramics for 10 years and teaching for 5 years. The workshop is suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners. In this two and a half hour taster session, Jasmine will be introducing you to the basic techniques of the craft of pottery throwing. She will do a demonstration before guiding you throughout the session in the creating of your own classic shapes such as bowls, cups and vases. You will have your own wheel and set of tools throughout the entire workshop. Jasmine will glaze and fire two of your creations for you, included in the ticket price.

This is a welcoming space to be creative, expressive and learn all the foundations you need to make beautiful pottery on the wheel. There will be tea & coffee provided, tunes playing, and plenty good studio vibes. Everything you need to complete the workshop will be provided - all you need to bring is your wonderful-self!

FAQs:

How many people will be in this workshop?

5 person maximum capacity.

When can I take my pottery home?

Your pottery will be ready to collect 3-4 weeks after the workshop. Your pottery needs time to completely dry out before being bisque fired, glazed, and stoneware fired.

What if I want to keep more than two pots I make?

If you want to keep extra pots, you absolutely can! A fee of £7 per extra pot would need to be taken to cover the extra glazing and firing costs. You can opt into this the end of the workshop if you want to so no need to make up your mind about this beforehand. Card and contactless payments accepted.

Can I use my pottery for food and drink?

Yes. Everything you make will be food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe, unless otherwise stated. All pottery will be fired to stoneware temperature, which means it will be durable and suitable for everyday use.

Is there parking?

If arriving by car, there is a small car park at the studio entrance you can use. If you come by bicycle, there is an enclosed studio garden at studio entrance and you are welcome to leave or lock up your bike anywhere there.

What do I wear?

Wear something comfortable and that you don't mind getting dirty. Aprons are provided but its not guaranteed you wont get some clay on your clothes and shoes!

Is there disability access?

Yes. There are no steps to enter the studio and there are double doors that open both ways for wheel chair access. If you have any additional needs, please let Jasmine know in advance so she can do everything she can to accommodate you as much as possible.
