We'll be screening: The Tale of the Three Jewels (Hikayat al-Jawahir al-Thalath), a movie based in Gaza. This movie was picked by a Bristol-based Gazan, Salma. She said, 'I wanted people to see our culture beyond our genocide'. Part of the profits from this event will goes to her family in Gaza. Salma is also brining home-made Palestinian food (Palestinian tea and ‘fatayer’ (Palestinian pie)) for sales.

The Tale of the Three Jewels (Hikayat al-Jawahir al-Thalath) is a poetic coming-of-age film set in the heart of Gaza during the First Intifada. Directed by Michel Khleifi, it tells the story of Yusef, a young boy navigating the harsh realities of military occupation while holding onto dreams and tenderness. When he falls in love with Aida, a spirited girl from his neighborhood, she challenges him to find three legendary jewels as a condition for her hand in marriage. Blending magical realism with the stark truths of war-torn childhood, the film captures a rare, intimate view of Gazan life—where even amidst destruction, love, hope, and imagination still bloom.
