You are invited to
Olive Branch Art's Fundraiser + Exhibition!
- Hosted by Negative Thinking (Studio F1, Willway Yard, Bedminster, BS34BG)
OBA is a not-for-profit that has been engaging with young Sahrawi refugees in the camps in Southwest Algeria since 2010 and has been running creative photography training programs since 2017.
As part of this programme, we’ll be training the photographers we've previously been mentoring in the camps to conduct their own photography workshops at one of the local schools. These will be paid positions, supported by a partnership with another UK-based Sahrawi solidarity group, providing an incredible opportunity for young people to earn income within the very limited economy of the refugee camps.
The evening will showcase the powerful photographs taken by these young refugees and share work made by OBA artists from previous trips - raising funds for our upcoming trip (February 2025) to the Sahara to continue this impactful programme. There will be a short talk with the photographer and facilitator of OBA, Emma Brown.
At the event there will also be a Camera Amnesty - where you can dust off and donate your old digital, compact cameras (including battery and charger please) to be used within the project. We will be accepting donations and compact camera before/during/after the event so please reach out if you'd like to contribute to the project.
A raffle supported by Negative Thinking and G*RLS Camera Club, among others, will have excellent photography/Sahara-related prizes on the night too.
