A Fund raiser for Basti Ram!
Basti Ram run educational youth projects in Indian and the UK. Basti Ram are a grass-roots charity (No: 1137644) that believes in using Photography for social change. One of the projects they run is'The Life through the Lens' project. It combines teaching village primary school children with running a 2 week Photography course for boys living in a destitute boy's home in India.
The project was developed to give children from a developing country the chance to show their lives to the world in an honest and uplifting way.
Too often we see'poor' people's lives through the eyes of Western Photographers who, even with the best of intentions, are often biased in the way they see. Too often, poverty looks hopeless and defeated. This project aims to offer a new perspective.
It strives to demonstrate that young people living in deprived circumstances can have strength and passion for their surroundings and their lives and gives them the opportunity to represent themselves!
We are currently looking to organise an exhibition of the boys work in London and the funds from this night will all go towards this!
