Come blinking from your hibernation and connect to your inner bear by hunting for the truest sign of spring - wild garlic!

Join us to hear some garlicky folklore and learn how to safely identify and sustainably forage wild garlic (and maybe some other surprise treats along the way) in the gorgeous Manor Woods, an ancient woodland alongside the river Malago and home to nesting Kingfishers.

Following our gathering of garlic (approx 2 houts), we shall head to a nearby location to collectively make a lacto-fermented wild garlic “kraut” for you to take home with you. This will preserve your hoard safely and deliciously. We will also share other preservation and recipe ideas.

Spaces are limited for the fermentation workshop so get your tickets (listed as forage & ferment) fast! You can also join us for the foraging walk only (listed as forage only). Check your ticket selection carefully!.

Who are Nature Queerdos?
Nature Queerdos is a community interest company (not for profit social enterprise). Our aim is to improve well-being for LGBTQIA+ people. We do this by offering foraging and other creative nature connection activities throughout the year.

Where: Manor Woods (exact location provided on booking).
Location of fermentation workshop nearby manor woods, location on booking.

What to bring:
Outdoor and weather appropriate clothing and footwear
Your own drinks/snacks as needed
A bag/container for foraging (e.g. paper bag, plastic bad, linen bag, tupperware etc)
A small clean jam jar

Access information:

PA/Carer tickets are available for free

Mobility:
To access the places where wild garlic grows requires mobilising on uneven and potentially muddy/slippery and in places steep ground. Walking sticks/poles may be beneficial. Unfortunately, it is not accessible for wheelchair users or people who require wheeled mobility aids. We are working on creating another wild garlic event that will be accessible to wheelchair users.

If you require assistance bending/picking plants from ground that can be provided.

The route is 1.25 miles in total. We will go at a slow pace and people can take rests as they require. There are no benches within the woodland stretch (approx 0.5 miles) but there are some in the park. You may wish to bring something to sit on e.g. plastic bag in case of wet ground, or fold-out chair.

There is no shelter or toilets in Manor Woods.

Neurodiversity and mental health/ illness access needs:
