ABOUT US

Words for Gaza is a new grassroots movement of Southwest-based book industry workers.

THE READINGS

In collaboration with Bristol Palestine Alliance, we are hosting an all-star line-up of poets, authors, and speakers, including Nikesh Shukla, Salena Godden, Noreen Masud, Vanessa Kisuule, Sukina Noor, and more. Each reader will share their work and that of a Palestinian author.

THE PLAY

We will also read WELCOME TO GAZA, a play co-written and directed by Peter Oswald and made possible by the Hands Up Project. Based on short plays written by schoolchildren in Gaza and the West Bank, this fantastic stage work allows us to glimpse young Palestinians' poignant lives and experiences.

The plays are about life in Gaza before October 7th, 2023, and are being judged in a competition. This framework contrasts the depiction of life before October 7th with real-time text updates from Gaza during the judging, highlighting the urgency surrounding the current situation.

This performance will star the prolific actors Saikat Ahamed, Miltos Yerolemou, Fionn Gill, Saskia Portway, Dorian Simpson, and Aaliyah Abbasi!

YOU ARE INVITED!

Words for Gaza invites the local community to the biggest literary Palestine fundraiser ever hosted in the southwest. We promise an inspiring evening of activism and the spoken word. Through the power of literature and performance, we can raise awareness and funds for the Palestinian cause and amplify Palestinian voices.

So, join us on October 13th when the doors open at 4:30 p.m.! Then, from 5 to 8 p.m., gather with fellow Bristolians and southwesterners in needed solidarity with Palestine.

Complimentary refreshments of water, regular tea, decaf tea, regular milk, and oat milk will be provided, so feel free to grab drinks before the event starts or during the 20-minute break. Alcohol is not permitted on site.

There is a praying and wellbeing room available. The venue building and toilet inside are wheelchair-accessible. Please contact us should you need seats close to any of these facilities.

OUR MISSION

Our movement seeks to harness the power of language to raise awareness and funds for the Palestinian people and champion their voices. All profits go to Medical Aid for Palestinians and four Palestinian families who need crucial aid. You can find more about who they are on our social media.

CONTENT WARNING

The performances may contain graphic details, complex themes such as genocide, and explicit language. We advise that parents consider these themes before attending with their children. If you need to use the prayer and well-being room on-site more immediately, as mentioned, we can reserve seats next to it.
