Get set to go old school at the biggest party of the summer. Colston Hall brings the sunshine to the opening night of Bristol Harbour Festival 2018 with laid-back grooves and legendary performances from Jimmy Cliff, Grandmaster Flash and Trojan Sound System.
Grammy Award-winning godfather of reggae Jimmy Cliff has been described as the “original Jamaican rude boy” (Rolling Stone). Performing hits like ‘Wonderful World, Beautiful People’, ‘Many Rivers to Cross’ and ‘Vietnam’ live on the amphitheatre stage, this will be an unforgettable performance by the man who brought reggae to the world.
The innovator, the pioneer, one of the originators of Hip Hop music, Grandmaster Flash presents ‘Hip Hop, People, Places and Things’ – the first live, block party experience. This amazing audio-visual performance will bring the history of hip hop to life – cuttin’ and scratchin’ your favourite tunes on the turntables with the original record sleeves shown live on screen.
For the last 14 years, Trojan Sound System have been an undeniable force on the UK ska, roots reggae, dub, dancehall and bass music scene. Representing the mighty Trojan Records, who celebrate their 50th birthday this year, the System’s talented team of selectors, vocalists and special guests will take the festival by storm.
Plus join us for a blistering after party with champion beat-boxer, collaborator and innovator Beardyman and hip-hop legend Peanut Butter Wolf (2 Kool and Ninja Tune) as well as a substantial helping of cool from the one and only Don Letts.
