JEREMY TOOMBS:
If you’ve been around Bristol poetry long enough, you’ve probably at least heard of Jeremy Toombs—he’s been around running and attending open mics, teaching poetry in schools, performing at festivals once upon a time, or perhaps you found one his books donated to charity at Amnesty Bookstore.
Jeremy’s poetry is wide-ranging in form, content, and influences—-the Beats, the Romantics, Tang Dynasty and Harlem Renaissance poets all find their echos in Jeremy’s work.
But tonight is Special and different; the influences are still there but the content is about the rather significant event of his mother’s death just after Christmas 2024. This is the work of a life-long poet presenting his poetry about what’s obviously one of the more a significant events in his life. His inclination to share these poems is perhaps selfish, for his own catharsis—but hopefully these poems will resonate with others as well.
BO GIBBS:
Bo is a professional Jack of all Trades who once or twice a month, at various Bristol open mics, passes as a poet.
After refusing to put their creative writing degree to any real practical use they now spend their evenings, lunch breaks, and showers idly putting into words all the things that they see, and the large feelings they have while seeing them.
The result is poetry that cannot decide if it wants to be Sylvia Plath or Ted Hughes.
JIM EVANS:
Jim Evans is a folk singer, guitarist and song collector that has played in Bristol and beyond for more than a decade. With his intricate fingerpicking guitar style, he breathes life into American folk and blues songs penned by both authors long forgotten and early pioneers of the genre.
ANA-MARIA CRETU:
By day I do research in philosophy and history of science. Also, by day, and sometimes by night, I write poems, essays, children's stories, and short stories. My first love was cinema so I watch a lot of films and sometimes I write about films in poem or essay form. I love to experiment with poetry and write in whichever language the poem finds its form. I write on a variety of themes and subjects, however mundane, that I believe can be shaped into a poetic form. You'll often find me reading my latest work at Just Cos.
