Beltane Full Moon Circle + May Day Flower Baskets at L'étoile 18 West Street Bristol BS2 0BH
See event details

A event on Friday 5th May. The event starts at 18:00.

BELTANE FULL MOON CIRCLE. On Friday the 5th of May the so-called Flower Moon will arise at 6.34 pm. We will create a sacred space where to celebrate this special moon whose name derives from the association with the time of year when flowers most lively and densely bloom.
We celebrate the full moon in all its intensity and power reflecting on the significance that the ideas of completion, fertility, abundance, and transformation assume in our lives.

As the flower moon is coming just slightly after the celebration of Beltane, we will introduce the origins and customs of this pagan festival that falls about halfway between the spring equinox (Ostara) and the coming summer solstice (Litha). The holiday - usually observed on the first of May (May Day) - celebrates spring at its peak and it is a good moment to think about what are you inspired to devote your spring energies.

THE MAKING OF MAY DAY FLOWER BASKETS. In order to celebrate both Beltane and the Flower Moon we will revive the long-lost tradition of May Baskets. Just like it was done in the past, we’ll create a small paper basket filled with flowers and goodwill. The ancient custom of May Baskets was to give them to someone in need of care, such as an elderly friend, or someone who is recovering from an illness, but can also be a gift just for us or to be hung on our door to protect the house and our beloved ones.
In the time that remains and with the left-over materials, we can also create flower wreaths to wear.
