DAVID GRUBBS / SECLUDED BRONTE / IGH BAND at Kino
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Gastr del Sol-founding postmodern post-rock pioneer David Grubbs comes to Kino - biggest booking in IGH history?! Grubbs’ four decades traversing the US underground fuel his revelatory guitar experimentalism and idiosyncratic improvisation – he’s a mercurial mangler without equal FFO: Jim O’Rourke, Tortoise, Slint. Formidable support from Secluded Bronte’s funhouse mirror of no wave absurdism and free improv theatricals."

Richard Thomas, Adam Bohman, Jonathan Bohman
- formed in London and launched in New York City in 2002.
They released their first album, Secluded In Jersey City, on
Pogus. Their music combines elements of free improvisation,
rock, musiqueconcrete, dub, songs and spoken word. They
have been likened to a wide array of artists - This Heat, Wire,
The Specials, John Zorn, Jean-Luc Godard, Ennio Morricone,
Talk Talk,The Residents, The Fall, JohnCage and Sun Ra - but,
ultimately, Secluded Bronte are unclassifiable. Since 2020
Secluded Bronte have released six albums on the Ffordd
Allanlabel, an album on Cafe Oto’s Takuroku label, a 7” EP
on Felix Kubin’s Apolkalypso label and toured extensively.
Shows have been as diverse as Sonar Festival Barcelona
/ Brighton Psych Fest / The Knitting Factory New York,
Supernormal, All Tomorrow’s Parties and Le Non Jazz Paris.

“People who hate my stand-up often deny it even
constitutes ‘comedy’Doubtless many would wonder if the
work of the veteran improvisatory trio Secluded Bronte should
be considered ‘music’. Instruments may be involved, perhaps
furniture, maybe even words, or all three in a chance collision
of calculated heterogeneity. All that is certain – time will pass
and something will happen. Start your day in a right state”
- Stewart Lee

“Metronomic electrical pulses are made beautiful by multiple
layeringinto complex rhythms with melodic pitch changes,
accompanied byspoken words as if walking through a hall of
mirrors or a scene from AlainResnais’s Last Year in Marienbad”
- The Wire Magazine,

“What is this? The pop group we always wanted.”
The Quietus/BBC Radio 3
